To conclude a three-year testing process that also included Germany, Italy and inner Mongolia, Lotus took Emeya to the Arctic Circle, where temperatures plunged as low as -25°c.
Deep inside the Arctic Circle
Winter 2024. 250km inside the Arctic Circle. With Lotus engineers at the wheel, the Emeya completes a three-year programme of intense testing and development.
From twisty Alpine passes to the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, Emeya’s testing process has been vigorous. Our Hyper-GT has had to prove itself in intense heat, on the track, and on various road surfaces in all kinds of conditions.
But the Arctic Circle is something else. With temperatures dipping below -25°c, this ultra-remote, ice-coated testing ground is as challenging as it gets.
What do extreme weather tests cover?
In a word: everything. Checks include the functionality of braking systems on icy surfaces, the ability of the steering to adapt when the temperature drops, and the effect on the car’s battery in terms of both performance and charging.
Overall levels of traction and stability are gauged, the car’s performance on winter tyres is monitored, and the AC and climate systems are calibrated to achieve greater efficiency in all conditions.
Above all, the goal is to ensure that the car will always drive like a Lotus. Engagement at the wheel is paramount.
